Food I Have Been Loving This Week #24

They're back! These are one of my favourite posts to write and this is actually the first of 2018. Over Christmas and the New Year I've been cooking a lot more and I have rediscovered some old favourites so for once, one of these posts is actually filled with more homemade meals than anything else!
food ive been loving
Shepherds Pie - Isn't this just one of the most perfect winter meals? It's such a warming and comforting meal and really fills me up so it's a perfect one for this time of year. I'd not made it for a good few months so I added it to the meal plan a few weeks ago and it was better than I could have imagined. It had such a meaty flavour, soft mashed potato and crispy cheese on top. Just the best and it was delicious with peas, carrots and yorkshire puddings. I'm going to have to make it again soon because I can't get it out of my head! I actually saw a recipe for a plant based shepherds pie recently which I actually think looks really good so I might have to brave it and try that soon!

Dark Twix - Twix's are one of my all time favourite chocolate bars, you know when you're just in need of a bit of a chocolate fix? Well Twix is one of my favourites for that but I was so happy to see a dark version in my stocking on Christmas Day. There are a few american sweet shops near us but the one in Meadowhall has some brilliant bits so it was very exciting to see a few bits from there on Christmas Day. What I loved about this was that the dark chocolate just took the sweetness away from it a bit, which is great because Twix's can be a bit full on sometimes with how sweet they are. Definitely need to get another one of these soon.

Sausage Cassoulet - I'm not sure if I've mentioned this in one of these posts before or not but I did post a recipe for it a few months ago so if you would like to give that a read, I'll leave a link here. This was a meal I'd always wanted to make but just never thought I would be able to for some reason. When I made it for the first time though I thought to myself, why have I never made this before! Since then I've made it at least 3 or 4 times and it's just delicious. It's another meal that is perfect for winter and is so warming on a cold evening. I usually serve it with mash but last time we had it with rice instead and it was just as good. It's becoming a bit of a staple of ours now.

Sausage and Mash - Another sausage meal but the Asda Extra Special Cumberland ones are just the best ever so we end up cooking with them a lot now! They're 2 packs for £4 so I get them every so often and use them for a few meals throughout the week. You can't beat sausage and mash can you? It's another meal that is so comforting and is so simple to make. I love it so much but definitely don't make it nearly enough.

Bucks Fizz - You can't have Christmas without Bucks Fizz can you? and as this is the first one of these posts since Christmas, I feel like it should be included. We always have a few bottles of this in for over Christmas and New Year, and as I don't really drink much, this is perfect. We always have a glass of it on Christmas morning while opening presents.

Chocolate Dips - These take me back to being a child! though I still love them just as much as I used to. I always pick one of these chocolate dips up when I'm in places like B&M as they're so cheap and such a nice little snack for when I'm feeling like something sweet.

Chicken Casserole - The slow cooker is back out and one of my favourites to make is chicken casserole. It's a great meal to just chuck in and leave on high for about 4 or 5 hours, no fuss at all. I use chicken, onion, carrots, a chicken casserole mix and some water and that's all there is to it. It's a brilliant meal to come home to as the smell fills the whole flat. Serve with mash and dumplings and it's a winner.
