Weekend Summary #26 - Georges Birthday & The Greatest Showman

I used to absolutely love writing my weekend summary blog posts but now I end up doing about one a year! My life is quite boring so there really isn't much to document each week. As my last weekend post was in April 2017, I really wanted to do one this week as it was Georges birthday last weekend and I always like to read back these sorts of posts. We didn't end up doing much different to what we usually do but it was such a nice few days.

As George had a few days off around his birthday we had a bit of a date day on Friday. We started with going to the cinema to see The Greatest Showman which I've been waiting to see for ages! I don't know why it's taken us so long to go, but it was worth the wait. I'd been listening to the soundtrack for a good few weeks but actually seeing the film and hearing the songs in that way was amazing, I think I had tears in my eyes about 5 times. It was such an emotional film but one of the best I've ever seen I think. I felt a bit like I couldn't breathe at the end. I already want to go and see it again. I know this sounds super boring but it was so nice to go in the afternoon as it the cinema was so calm and quiet, and then afterwards we went to get Nandos which felt like such a treat as I can't even remember the last time we went! Their chocolate cake is still the best ever 😍

Saturday was quite chilled though we did venture out to do a food shop which I won't lie, greatly excites me. We'd kind of celebrated Georges birthday on the Friday so Saturday was all about good food, baking and presents. I always like to try and make Georges birthday special so I tried to go all out with presents this year and I think he was impressed, and I also attempted to make a birthday cake! Instead of buying one this year I really wanted to try and make a victoria sponge as it's something I never ever bake and can you really beat a classic slice of sponge cake? I'm sure I'll post a recipe for it at some point as it's nothing like any other recipes on my blog and it was so easy to do.

The rest of the weekend was spent watching films and episode after episode of The US Office because we've started it again and can't get enough. It never gets old. Also lots of Easter chocolate and cake was consumed, it's never too early for Easter Eggs is it? Sunday night was a bit of a pamper night for me which is always nice, I'm loving trying lots of different face masks again and really taking some time out each week for a bit of self care. Tea that night was a delicious slow cooker stew which George made, the perfect Winter meal! Over the weekend we also started having a look at places we could go on holiday/honeymoon this year which was exciting! I've mentioned a few times recently that we've got a few places in mind to go at some point this year and though we probably won't book anything for a few months, it's so nice to have a look and make some plans! I'm desperate to book a holiday at the moment but there are just so many places I want to go, it's impossible to decide! I was quite set on Paris but I'm growing more and more fond of Amsterdam every time I look, it looks like there is so much to explore there. If anyone has been to Amsterdam before or has any blog posts on your experience please let me know, I'd love to read as much as possible and get some recommendations.

Though to some it might seem like a bit of boring weekend to blog about, it was one of my favourites in ages and definitely one I want to read about in future. I think we made such a good decision with going to see The Greatest Showman, I can't get it out of my head, and it was nice to get back to baking as I don't do it nearly enough anymore!

Have you been to see The Greatest Showman? What did you think?
