5 Films To Watch On A Rainy Autumnal Day

I adore films. I'm sure you all know by now because it's not like I don't talk about them enough. I've shared my ultimate girl power movies, my top Christmas film recommendations and more, but today I wanted to talk about some of my fave films to watch on a rainy, autumnal day. I am in my element with this cold, wet weather we're having at the moment and I'm sure we'll have for many months yet, and I love nothing more than to get snug on the sofa with a hot drink and to stick a film on when it's like this. I had many, many movies I could talk about but I've narrowed it down to five that I think are some of the best to curl up with.

Harry Potter

Let's get the obvious out of the way. In my opinion, there is no better film for a rainy day than Harry Potter. There is just something so incredibly comforting about it and everytime the music starts, I instantly feel happy. The setting, the dark stories, the magic, the snow, just so much about each film makes me think of Autumn, Winter and Christmas, all of my favourite things so I can guarantee whichever film is on, it will put a smile on my face. All of the films have been playing on ITV for a few weeks now, the latest being The Prisoner Of Azkaban so you've still got time to catch up ready for the next one this Sunday!

The Holiday

I'm always torn between The Holiday and Love Actually when it comes to my fave festive film. I think Love Actually just tops it but this film fills me with so much joy. It's got an absolutely stellar cast including Jude Law, Cameron Diaz, Kate Winslet and Jack Black, and it's a movie I could never get bored of. I love the tiny cottage, the contrast between Christmas in England and in LA and the relationships that come about that you would never predict. It's one of those films that just makes me feel cosy and always gets me in the mood for Christmas.

The Twilight Saga

Maybe not everyone's first choice but man I love the Twilight films! I was utterly obsessed with them when I was like 14 and whilst I definitely cringe at moments now when I watch the films, they'll always have a special place in my heart. You know when you just have certain things that take you right back to a certain age or moment? Well these films do that for me. Robert Pattinson as Edward and Taylor Lautner as Jacob - swoon. I think my fave has to be either New Moon or Eclipse but I could watch all of them over and over. I think the Twilight series always stand out as a good one to watch on a cold, rainy day, because that's very much what the setting of the films is like. They just make me want to curl up with a blanket and a hot cup of tea.

Sweeney Todd

I actually only watched Sweeney Todd for the first time last year - oddly it was the film I decided to put on whilst decorating the Christmas tree and now I'm tempted to do the same thing this year! From the moment it started though, I loved it. It was dark, tense and the music throughout is some of the best. Johnny Depp was perfect casting for the mad Sweeney Todd, out for revenge and I think we can all agree Helena Bonham Carter steals pretty much every film she's in. This is such a perfect choice to watch around Halloween.

Love Actually

I had to end this post with Love Actually. Once October starts, I get out all of the Christmas films and this really is the ultimate for me. It's heartwarming, funny and makes me feel festive AF. I love that each character has their own story but how they all sort of start to interweave at points, and I still think each time I watch it - will we ever get a cast like that again? I don't think we will. Hugh Grant, Emma Thompson, Bill Nighy, Keira Knightley, Colin Firth - I mean, we're talking some of the best british actors around here. I can't quite put into words how special this film is to me, it just sums up the best time of year.

I don't tend to watch films on my own - can never hold my attention! But Harry Potter is great for this time of year. My boyfriend and I are watching The Magicians on Amazon Prime, which is fantastic! x
