Bourbon Biscuits Recipe...

I got a bit brave last week and decided to attempt making Bourbon Biscuits. They were never going to be as good as the real thing but for a first attempt at something I have never tried before, I think they turned out pretty well. George ate most of them so that must be a good sign.
Ingredients:
225g plain flour
75g cocoa powder
2 tbsp golden syrup
3 tbsp milk
125g margarine
125 caster sugar
1 tsp bicarb

I don't have exact measurements for the filling, it was just a buttercream I made using cocoa powder, butter and icing sugar, there are loads of recipes for buttercream online so you'll definitely be able to find one!

Method:
1. In a bowl, add the flour, butter, cocoa, sugar, golden syrup and bicarb, I started off mixing with a wooden spoon but as you want it to form a dough, I ended up just using my hands to get it all together
2. When it starts forming into a dough, add the milk a tablespoon at a time, this really makes it stick together. When this is done, wrap it in clingfilm and leave to chill in the fridge for 15 minutes
3. When the dough has chilled for 15 minutes, put a bit of flour on the surface and start to roll out. Again I can't really give exact measurements for how big they should be but if you look at the picture, they do rise quite a bit so make your own judgement based on that
4. Grease a baking tray, and when your dough is rolled out and cut, put on the baking tray and put into a 180 degrees pre-heated oven for around 20 minutes
5. As I said above, for the buttercream I just mixed butter, icing sugar and cocoa powder, I ended up using loads of icing sugar as it ended up quite runny. I actually put it in the fridge to chill so it could thicken up a little bit. When the biscuits are out of the oven and cooled, you can sandwich them together with the buttercream!

Lush The Comforter...

I don't think there is one blogger I follow who doesn't love The Comforter from Lush. It's been of my favourites for years now but because I get so caught up in all the amazing bath bombs, its not one I purchase a lot.
First of all I just love the colour, it makes the water go a really soft pink, darker if you add more. But I like to use a chunk of this with some Radox that way I get a really good bubble bath with a little bit of colour too! This will easily last me 5 baths or so as I don't use loads but even when I feel like i'm using a lot, it just seems to last forever!

I definitely want to start getting more bubble bars rather than bath bombs from Lush. I really do go a bit mad at christmas with the bath bombs just because they bring so many out and its so exciting, I think this year will be even worse because now I have a job, i'm going to have a worrying amount to spend in Lush! Anyway I love the bath bombs at christmas like Shoot For The Stars which is my absolute favourite but throughout the rest of the year I think, this is going to sound fancy, its more cost effective to get a bubble bar, for me anyway. As they last so long, you can easily get more than a few baths out of it whereas for only about a pound less or so you can get a bath bomb and only get one use out of it.

Do you like The Comforter? I really want to go to the Oxford Street store as I know they do the comforter shower gel as an exclusive, I bet it smells amazing!

Recent Beauty and Random Favourites...

As I said in my Beauty, Food and TV Favourites, I am just going to do these posts every so often, when I feel like they're are things worth mentioning. I don't want to commit to doing monthly favourites as some months I just go blank and can't think of anything I've been particularly loving or anything I've bought. It turns out over the last few weeks there has been a few new things which I've been really enjoying and I wanted to share them!
1. Ted - We bought this when the boys came to stay as we love having movie nights and it always works out so much cheaper than going to the cinema. They wanted this mainly because it came with a free t-shirt but I don't think they had seen it before and me and George hadn't watched it in ages. It's still just as funny as the first time I watched it, which was ages ago now. I really want to see the second film but i'm not sure if it will be as good as the first!

2. Colorfy App - I found this app a few weeks ago after someone posted a picture of it on Instagram. I might be 20 but I still love colouring and I've heard from so many people that it helps them with their anxiety so I really wanted to give a try. I like going on this for a bit each night to keep me calm and nice and relaxed just before bed. There are so many different patterns, animals, flowers etc that you can choose to colour. I really recommend it if you need something to distract you for a while.

3. Love Rosie - I posted a review of this film just recently as we had recently been watching it again, I've just fallen in love with it all over again. It's just a perfect romantic comedy and it's just a really easy watch. We put this on most nights if there is nothing on but we need something on to fall asleep too. You can read my full review here

4. Primark Bedding - Since we moved in, I have wanted a pastel theme for the bedroom and slowly but surely we are getting there, we've lived here for ages now but it seems to be taking so long to get each room done exactly how we want it. I found this bedding set for only £11 in Primark and I had to get it. I also got two extra pillowcases for only £2. You can't beat Primark for homeware as its so reasonably priced. I love how different this bedding is to anything else we have. We have a really light blue bedding set and we have a red one which is more of a spare, I think this new one might be my favourite.

5. Next Perfume - I picked this up on a bit of a whim a few weeks ago when Next had a huge sale on. I can't resist it when they have a sale on, especially on things like this. This perfume won't overtake my Boss Orange as my favourite but it's a close second. It's different to any others I have and not only does it smell good, I love the bottle. It reminds me a lot of Jo Malone, without the huge price tag. I just can't justify spending over £80 on a perfume. This was only £9 and it was supposed to be £25 so a real bargain. I'm already feeling sad at the thought of this running out!

Weekend Summary #2 - Handmade Burger Company and Baking...

I was so excited for the weekend thats just gone because it had literally been weeks since me and George both had time off work at the same time, as he works every other weekend and has an odd day off in the week, it can be hard to find the time to do things so I had been looking forward to this for ages. On Saturday we literally did nothing, it was so good! We had a long lie in, got the big food shop delivered so now we actually have a full fridge and just watched TV and spent time together. I made some tiffin later on in the day, recipe here, as its one of our favourites.

I said in lasts weeks weekend summary that we had some good news so we wanted to celebrate, on Sunday we had 'date day' and went for a nice meal at Handmade Burger Company. The last time we went to a Handmade Burger was when we still lived in Leicester, and it's almost a year since we left now! They have so many new additions to the menu, I can't recommend it enough! I went for the Peanut Butter and Bacon Chicken Burger with cheese and George went for the same, just with a beef burger rather than chicken, we also shared a side of chips. The burgers were insane! One half was covered in smooth peanut butter and the other was smothered in chilli jam, we were both a bit sceptical but we were intrigued and I think we both have new favourites! Seriously, if you go to a handmade burger, you need to try this! Also the man who served us was so lovely, he was so chatty and welcoming.
At Meadowhall we picked up Hello Life by Marcus Butler, i'm going to do a full review on my blog soon but just by skipping through, im already loving it. This is the sort of book young people need to read, I feel so motivated to eat better, exercise and generally get my act together a little bit, he knows what hes talking about and has some really good advice in there. I never wanted to get sucked into buying youtubers book as there are so many out there now but I've always liked Marcus, he seems like a really nice person and this book is different to the rest. Have you read it? From Superdrug I picked up a new conditioner to try, I go through conditioner so quick, it was only two weeks ago I picked some up and im already out. I'm not sure how good this will be, it's limited edition and I was sucked in by the packaging and the scent, I didn't think the last conditioner I bought from Superdrug was going to be great as it was just their own but it's really good so hopefully this will be the same. It looks pretty anyway.
I would love to know what you got up to this weekend, and let me know if you've read Marcus' book, I'd love to know what other people think!

The Last Year...

I wanted to write this post as I realised last week it's been almost a year since we moved back to Sheffield. I can't remember the exact date so we might have already passed it but either way a lot has happened this last year, most of it unexpected so I wanted to look back and reflect.

Unfortunately last September we made the decision to leave uni in Leicester and move back to Sheffield to stay with family until we found a place of our own. It was never going to be fun doing that and definitely not ideal or at all how we had pictured things to go when we first moved to Leicester. But uni is expensive and hard work and I just wasn't cut out for it and between us we just couldn't afford it anymore. I think i'll always feel bad about it because essentially if I hadn't quit my course, we'd have never been in that position where we needed to leave but that was just the situation we were in. As we weren't talking to my family, the only option we had was to move in with Georges family, I don't know who'll read this so I won't go into detail but it was only Georges brothers that kept us sane, seriously I wish I could say everything I wanted to say but it's probably best I don't. Though this last year has had highs, we've also had a lot of lows and there are only a few family members we talk to on both sides now, some people aren't worth the effort or drama anymore.

Though we loved living with George's brothers and we really miss them now we don't, we try to have them over to ours once a month or so, in fact they're coming round in a few weeks so i'm looking forward to that. When we first moved back we were lucky in that George found a job straight away, not the best one and not one he wanted to stay in forever but it meant we could get our own place and also go on a weekend away.

I had been wanting to go the Christmas Market in Manchester for ages and last November we finally went, this turned out to be the best weekend of my life as we ended up getting engaged there, I will seriously never forget it. We're going back this November, I actually feel like crying when I think that it's almost a year already, how has it gone so fast! In this last year we've come up with a few ideas for a wedding, we had a big plan to go to New York next year and just do it while we're there and that is still a strong possibly but we just want to be married so much that I think one day we'll probably just go and do it and then go on a big holiday, stag do's, hen parties etc. will probably be a few weeks after!

After we went to Manchester, we found a two bed flat and moved in just before christmas. To say it's been a year, we still have a lot of stuff we want to do to the flat, the bedroom still isn't exactly how I want it and neither is my dream office in the spare room, but it takes time and costs money but hopefully before this christmas it will all be done. I can't wait to see it all when it's finished and finally how we want it to be. I'm not sure what the next year holds for us but hopefully it will be even better than this one, I finally got a job this year, a work update is coming soon, so there are so many more possibilities, I can't wait to go on a holiday next year and I have a feeling we could be Mr and Mrs this time next year, who knows.
This picture is so blurry but I really wanted to include it as it was taken the first night we met! So cheesy but I was in love straight away, over 4 years on, we live together and we're getting married!

Maybelline Fit Me Foundation...

I don't often do posts on things that have disappointed me but I feel like when I find something that I have high hopes for and it lets me down, it needs mentioning.

I mentioned in my Beauty, Food and TV Favourites that I had recently gone back to my Rimmel Lasting Finish Foundation as I had bought the Maybelline Fit Me Foundation and it had disappointed me. I think I should just stick with Rimmel products, cos they just seem to be the best! First of all I was disappointed with the shade range. In Boots where I looked, there was 4 options available so it was very limited and I just kind of had to guess and compare it to what shade I have in the Rimmel Foundation. I got it in the shade 120 Classic Ivory which was the second lightest. I tried a bit of my hand and it looked okay but when I tried it at home, I looked orange. Full on orange.
There is no way I can ever wear this, im just so disappointed that I can't find a shade suitable for me at all and with only 4 options available in my store I think a lot of people would struggle. I'm also not impressed with the consistency of this. It seems a bit more runny than my Rimmel foundation and I've seen a few reviews where people have mentioned this too, as its quite thin, I didn't find it gave great coverage. Others may disagree though as I have seen quite a lot of positive reviews about it. Maybe I just picked a bad one up and I should give it another go if I can find it in my shade. It's so annoying when you spend money on a product, expecting it to be good, to then get no use out of it.

I normally love Maybelline products. I have the Fit Me Concealer which I don't think i'll ever stop using, its great for covering marks and spots - full review here. It's been called a dupe for the Nars Radiant Creamy Concealer so it must be good. I also love their Matte Maker Powder which is great for getting your makeup to stay on all day.

What do you think to Maybelline products? Have you had the same problem as me with this foundation?

Weekend Summary #1 - Blogging and Tidying...

I wanted to bring in a new sort of series to my blog as I feel at the moment it's just the same sort of things all the time, a beauty review then a recipe with an occasional haul thrown in. So, I wanted to bring something new and that is where I decided on a weekend summary. This will be a new post each week with just a few pictures from our weekend with a little summary. I love seeing what other people have been upto at the weekend, and maybe people might like to find out what I get upto, though it isn't that interesting. I think it will be nice to look back on and see in a few months time what I was doing each weekend!

I probably didn't pick the best weekend to start this on as it's a bit of a quiet one. George was working so my weekend was all about food, magazines and blogging. Though this weekend did start out really well as we had some good news on Friday and wanted to celebrate, I'm not going to mention it for a few weeks yet as there are still a few things to sort and people to tell. I'm aware this could sound like i'm pregnant but i'm not. It's still a very exciting time and i'm very proud right now. Our way of celebrating involves new DVDs, Ben and Jerrys and doughnuts! And a sleepover in the living room! We're going out for a meal at some point in the next few weeks to celebrate which i'm really looking forward too but this weekend we just wanted to celebrate at home.
Saturday and Sunday were spent blogging, cooking and tidying. Throughout the week, as hard as we try, we never seem to be able to keep on top of everything so when it gets to Saturday, there's a pile of pots to do, we need to hoover every room and we have stupid amounts of washing to do. I really need to get into a proper routine with it because i'm annoying myself with it now. On Sunday, I cooked a roast chicken and then used half of it for a risotto and the other half will be used tonight to go with some stuffing, potatoes and veg. I love having relaxing weekends to cook and just do things for me. My job isn't the hardest at all but it's a big step from never having worked before to now working every week so I really do look forward to the weekend every time. I can't wait until next weekend when George will be in and we can spend some time together and hopefully at some point go out somewhere nice to celebrate the good news!

Overnight Oats Recipe..

Until a few months ago I had no idea what Overnight Oats was, Slimming World has introduced me to so many new things and I love it for that. I'm not a massive porridge fan unless its coated in sugar so I wanted something a bit different to do with oats and thats when I found the recipe for Overnight Oats. I didn't know what to expect but they are so creamy and filling and a definite favourite of mine now!
Ingredients:
45g of oats
Fat Free Yoghurt, I usually use plain Greek style yoghurt but this time I used 2 Activia yoghurts
I also added Frozen fruit but you can add fresh if you prefer

Method:
1. Add half the oats to a jar or glass, top with a tablespoon of yoghurt, I then added some frozen berries
2. On top of the berries add the remaining oats then another tablespoon or two of yoghurt. Top again with fruit

That is it and you literally leave it in the fridge overnight for it to all sort of soak together. In the morning you can give it a stir so it goes really creamy and everything has mixed together.

Let me know if you give this a try! It's such a great one to prepare the night before and so you don't have to worry about breakfast the next morning!

Primark Haul and Ed's Diner with the boys...

First of all, i'm sorry for the lack of posts the last few days. I made my blog private for personal reasons, basically you don't always know who's looking at it and their reasons for it but now I just don't care. I shouldn't have to stop doing something I enjoy because of other people.

I'm back now and hopefully they'll be 2 or 3 posts out a week like I had just managed to get back into! I had so many written that I really wanted to publish but i'll just have to be a bit behind for a week or so. Anyway, this weekend we had George's brothers over and we introduced them to Ed's Diner and we also all did a bit of shopping. I love it when they come and stop for the weekend, they're just so funny. We took Alfie to Ed's Diner last year and he loved it so we thought it would be nice to take them both this time. If you haven't been before, I really recommend it! They do american diner food, in case you hadn't already guessed from the name, and their desserts are just amazing.
Me and George shared Wet Fries which are just chips and gravy, we get these every time and they always taste so delicious! I had a chicken burger, same as the boys and George had his usual chilli cheese burger. They also had Bacon and Cheese fries. For dessert we had cheesecake, another thing we get every time but I think it's the best I've ever had, Alfie had a huge sundae and Charlie got pancakes, he had a bit of a problem with the sugar as you can see from the picture! They tasted good though, I think we might need to get those next time!

When we were at Meadowhall, I popped into Primark as I wanted to look for a few homeware bits, i'm always looking for new things for the flat. I found a really nice bedding set for only £11 which I thought was a bargain. I'm putting it on later today and I think it's going to go really well with the pastel theme I've planned for the bedroom. I also just got a new reed diffuser in the scent jasmine, I love to have these around the flat, Alfie also got a candle as they had so many, I had to stop myself from picking some up, like I always do. The last thing I got was a new top for work. The picture makes it look way brighter than it is, it's a burnt orange colour which I think will look nice with some black jeans. I have this top in khaki, I featured it in this blog post, they're just so great to throw on and are really comfortable, for £4 you can't complain. When we got in, as we were all full of from Ed's, we just wanted a relaxing night, they all had a few games on fifa and then we all watched Ted. I hadn't watched it in ages but I forgot how funny it is, I really want to see the second one but it always seems to be the case that sequels aren't as good as the first film. Let me know if you've seen it and how it compares to the first!

On Sunday when the boys had gone, we just got a few things done around the flat and made a nice meal for tea. We didn't have much in so we picked a few things up from Marks and Spencer's, I just love all their food, I could buy it all. We wanted some sort of proper Sunday dinner so we got a chicken pie, so good, roast potatoes which are my absolute favourite, some veg and some Yorkshire Puddings. I could eat it all over again.
